Frequently Asked Questions
What does new construction paving cover?
New construction paving is the asphalt work on a surface that has not been paved before, from a brand new residential driveway to a parking facility, pathway, or sport court. We take on small to large scale projects and have completed everything from single driveways to large commercial installations. If it is a new surface going in, it falls under this.
Who is responsible for paving the driveway on a new build?
This is worth confirming before you plan anything. On a new build it may be your responsibility as the homeowner, or it may fall to your developer or the municipality, depending on the development and what stage it is at. Check with your builder or developer first, and once you know it is yours to arrange, give us a call and we will quote it.
What is involved in building a new asphalt surface?
A new surface goes in through stages. We excavate the area, grade it so water drains correctly, install and compact a gravel base, then lay and roll hot mix asphalt to the right thickness for how the surface will be used. Line painting is added at the end where it applies, such as on parking facilities and sport courts.
Can one company handle the whole job, or do I need several trades?
One company can handle all of it. We are a full service paving company, so driveway and pathway paving, parking lot paving, sport court paving, excavation, and line painting are all in house. That means one point of contact, one schedule, and no gaps between trades where problems tend to appear.
When in the construction schedule should paving happen?
Paving is usually one of the last things to go in. Underground services should be complete, heavy construction traffic should be finished or nearly finished, and the ground has to be properly prepared, because heavy equipment running across fresh asphalt will damage it. We will work with your site schedule to find the right window.
Do you work on projects of any size?
Yes. We handle small to large scale projects, and over 50 years in the asphalt paving industry means we have worked alongside builders, contractors, and site crews on a very wide range of jobs. Whether it is one new driveway or a full commercial site, tell us where you are in the build and we will fit into it.
Why does choosing an experienced paving contractor matter on new construction?
When starting a new asphalt paving project, choosing an experienced paving professional is what ensures a high-quality, long-lasting surface. Most of the failures we get called out to fix on newer pavement trace back to base and grading shortcuts that were invisible on day one. With over 50 years in the industry, we build the parts you cannot see with the same care as the surface you can.
How long does a new construction paving project take?
It depends on the size and scope of the project, how much excavation and grading the site needs, equipment access, and how the work fits around the rest of the build. A single new driveway goes in quickly, while a full commercial site is scheduled in stages. You will get a clear timeline with your quote.
When is the best time of year to schedule new construction paving in Calgary?
Paving season here runs from spring through fall, and asphalt needs warm, dry, stable weather to compact and cure the way it should. On new construction the timing also depends on when the site is genuinely ready for us. The season is short and books up quickly, so the earlier your paving window goes into the schedule, the better.
How much does new construction paving cost?
Every project is quoted individually. Cost depends on the area being paved, how much excavation and grading is required, base needs, the asphalt thickness the intended use calls for, site access, and any line painting.
