The gravel has to be graded, shaped for proper drainage, and compacted first, and in some cases we add base material to bring it up to spec. If the ground underneath is soft or holds water, we correct that before any asphalt goes down.

When water sits on the surface or works its way underneath, our freeze-thaw cycles let it expand and lift, and that is what cracks and heaves a driveway. Paving season here runs from spring through fall. Warm, dry, stable weather lets asphalt compact and cure the way it should, so late spring through early fall gives the best results. Our season is short and the schedule fills quickly, so it pays to book early.

Built on a sound base and looked after, an asphalt driveway will give you many years of service. Keep water draining away from it, fill cracks as soon as they appear, clean up fuel and oil spills quickly, and reseal periodically.
